I Want You- Fiona Apple w/ Elvis Costello
I have never heard Fiona Apple do a bad cover- she takes a song, makes it her own, and the emotional impact is magnified exponentially. This song does nothing short of make my skin crawl (in a he’s hiding in the bushes stalking me but its still flattering kind of way).
Hear the Original here (just music):
Elvis Costello covering “I Know” by Fiona Apple:
I Know is my favorite track off of When The Pawn..

90s Nostalgia: Veruca Salt - “Volcano Girls”
In between my Saved By The Bell watching and Crossfire playing, I listened to Veruca Salt. I wanted to be Nina Gordon. Then, the video for Volcano Girls came out and I just wanted to be the missing member of Veruca Salt just so i could be in this video. I couldn’t help but think that bungee cord jumping with instruments looked so much more fun than anything else i saw on tv. The video for this song looked as fun as it sounded. My favorite scene is when Nina is facing Louise and they are just jamming on their guitars- to me, that was the VS dynamic. I always thought that Louise was the rockstar that came up with all the awesome solos and Nina was the smart, clever songwriter of the group who rocked when she needed to. When i think of the 90s, Veruca Salt will always be one of those bands that defined that time period.
