Venus Hum

July 30th, 2007 | Category: Recommendations

they’re 70s fashion with a dash of electronic music. Back in 2003, Venus Hum contributed vocals to the Blue Man Group track “I Feel Love” and was featured on their Complex DVD. It was probably the best track on the record and the DVD- all i remember is Annette wearing this crazy dress that lit up. Not only did it suite the persona of the Blue Man Group but it added this excitement to their already great live show (i mean heck they are performance artists). Anyways, Venus Hum’s “Hummingbirds” off their debut disc is one of my favorite tracks till this day. Its haunting, great chorus, dark- like some track that Chris Corner would do but more pop.

Check out Venus Hum along with some tracks off their new record.

In the Bedroom After the War

July 30th, 2007 | Category: Recommendations

Stars is a Canadian Indie pop/rock band (you may know members Amy and Torquil from their work in Broken Social Scene). Listening to their music is like drinking a glass of red wine- sweet and lush. With Torquil and Amy sharing vocal duties, the songs are melodically rich and keep the listener engaged. But, the best songs best feature them singing together. Their new release, In our Bedroom After the War is not as strong as their last release “Set Yourself On Fire” but tracks like “The Night Starts Here” and “Take Me to the Riot” may be some of the best that Stars has released. Set Yourself On Fire had some epic pop sounding tracks like “One More Night” and “Ageless Beauty” while In our Bedroom After the War has the intimacy of a conversation.

In the “Ghost of Genova Heights”, Torquil channels the 80s sound with his best Bee Gees impression. The title track “In Our Bedroom After the War” seems like an extension of the typical stars type track with an orchestra sound.

Standout tracks include-

The Ghost of

Genova Heights

Take Me To the Riot

The Night Starts Here

“In Our Bedroom After the War” is now available for download from iTunes here. The record will be in stores everywhere Sep 25, 2007.

Stars have also announced a
